Preparing to welcome a new baby to the family comes with many joys and challenges, however, moving into a new apartment with no furniture is a stressor of its own. The need for essential household items, most importantly a bed and basic furniture, are necessary to make any new space a home.
Army veteran Kiara, who served from 2019 to 2024, contacted AKWP looking for assistance getting various furniture and household items for her home. During the initial conversation between Kiara and our case coordinator, it was noted that Kiara had a 4-year-old and was 33 weeks pregnant at the time.

Ever wondered what $10 could do? It can save the lives of veterans like the one you're reading about in this story. Donate $10 a month and help us reach veterans before a crisis occurs. Together, we can do better. Our veterans deserve better.
AKWP worked swiftly to ensure she would no longer have to sleep on an air mattress and connected Kiara to the Eagle River Elks Lodge. Within two days, they had volunteer assistance who brought not only a mattress for Kiara but also a bed frame, couch, and kitchen table and moved the items into her upstairs apartment.
Thanks to support from the community, Kiara received help to make their space a true home for her growing family.
