Lack of access to reliable transportation can turn everyday tasks into significant obstacles. Keith Johnson, an Army veteran, and his wife, Sholanda Webb, were unfortunately burdened by this challenge without a car to call their own. The couple often relied on costly Uber rides to get to medical appointments, grocery stores, and other essential errands. Keith, a 17-year Army veteran, also had mobility complications, which meant they needed to request larger, often more expensive, vehicles.
Ever wondered what $10 could do? It can save the lives of veterans like the one you're reading about in this story. Donate $10 a month and help us reach veterans before a crisis occurs. Together, we can do better. Our veterans deserve better.
Frustrated by this hardship, Sholanda contacted Alaska Warrior Partnership (AKWP) for assistance. AKWP Case Coordinator Tiana Freeman knew of Progressive’s Keys to Progress program and thought the couple would be the perfect candidates for this opportunity. Tiana worked with Sholanda and Keith on the application, ensuring every detail was completed and submitted.
“It’s breathtaking. It’s a blessing, something that we didn’t expect to get,” – Sholanda Webb, Veteran Spouse
Their perseverance paid off. In September, Keith and Sholanda received the life-changing news: they had been chosen! Overwhelmed with joy, they called Tiana in tears, expressing their heartfelt gratitude. The couple would be awarded a brand-new 2022 Chrysler Pacifica, included with a six-month insurance policy.
On November 14th, just after Veterans Day, Keith and Sholanda were honored at a special ceremony where they officially received their new vehicle. The moment marked not just a milestone but a fresh start for the couple, giving them newfound independence and relief from the burdens they had endured for so long. Sholanda excitedly told Alaska’s News Source about their plans to go places they hadn’t been able to before, including visiting Anchorage to see Goose Lake Park and the Northern Lights.
“..winning this vehicle today opens up a lot of doors for me and him, our family.” – Sholanda Webb, Veteran Spous
AKWP is proud to have been a part of this incredible journey, proving how proper support can transform lives.
