Jerry, an Army veteran who served our nation from 1968 to 1971, has always been the kind of man who takes care of things himself. But as the years passed, he found it harder to keep up with the little tasks around the house. His biggest concern, though, was not for himself. It was for his wife, Millie. Millie is unable to drive, and day after day she was stuck at home, longing for connection and companionship.

When Jerry reached out to AKWP, he was simply looking for help with home repairs and guidance on health options. As our team spent time listening to Jerry and Millie, we realized what they truly needed was more than just handy work. They needed relief. They needed connection. They needed to feel supported in their daily lives.

Ever wondered what $10 could do? It can save the lives of veterans like the one you're reading about in this story. Donate $10 a month and help us reach veterans before a crisis occurs. Together, we can do better. Our veterans deserve better.

AKWP reached out to our partners at Wasilla Area Seniors. After a home visit, a plan came together. Not only would Jerry and Millie receive help with tasks around the house, but Millie would be picked up each week and brought to the senior center. There, she could share meals, laugh with friends, and enjoy shopping trips, things that had once felt impossible without transportation.

The change has been profound. Millie now has new friendships and reasons to smile, while Jerry feels peace knowing his wife is cared for and connected. What began as a call for simple household help has turned into something much bigger: restored joy, freedom, and hope for both of them.

Jerry and Millie often express their deep gratitude to AKWP, to Tiffany at Wasilla Area Seniors, and to the caring community that made this possible. For them, these connections have not just filled gaps in daily needs. They have transformed their quality of life.
