Alaskan winters are relentless, with long stretches of darkness, subzero temperatures, and storms that test even the toughest residents. When your hot water heater goes out in the middle of it all, something that might feel like an inconvenience elsewhere quickly becomes a real hardship.
Amanda, a Navy veteran (2008-2013), reached out to Alaska Warrior Partnership needing assistance as the harsh Alaskan winter was affecting her family. Working off of a single income due to a recent divorce, losing hot water this winter made things tight, losing a little bit of warmth and comfort during an already demanding season for her and her children.

Ever wondered what $10 could do? It can save the lives of veterans like the one you're reading about in this story. Donate $10 a month and help us reach veterans before a crisis occurs. Together, we can do better. Our veterans deserve better.
AKWP worked as quickly as possible to help Amanda out. Though Amanda was able to resolve the issues with her hot water heater, the surprise emergency bill put her behind on her mortgage payment. AKWP was able to connect Amanda with Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals (VAREP) who were able to help her get caught up on her mortgage through their VAREP Cares program which assists qualified active duty or veterans with critical needs such as overdue bills, rent/mortgage, groceries, auto payment/insurance, auto repair, child and dependent care and critical baby items.
After finally finding a moment to catch her breath in this season of chaos, Amanda returned to Alaska Warrior Partnership – not knowing where else to go - to see if we could help her find counseling services for her and her family. We were able to connect her with a family counseling program through Cohen Clinic.
Best of luck to Amanda and her family as they start the year fresh in a new chapter. AKWP is in your corner as needs arise!
